After an awful test series, England stands with 2-0 lead in ODI Series | AUS vs ENG | The Ashes


Aaron Finch registered his second successive hundred in the series but Australia’s batting followed a familiar script of not making use of good starts as they finished with 270 for 9 after opting to bat in the second ODI against England in Brisbane on Friday (January 19). On either side of an 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket, Australia lost wickets in clusters which prevented them from finishing with a 300-plus total, which looked achievable at one stage.

Toss:Australia won the toss and elected to Bat First.

With 68 run opening stand Australia seemed quite strong till 12th Over. After loss of David Warner(35 runs) ,  Captain came into bat. In-form Aaron Finch was in very good flow. After the lasting partnership of Finch and Smith  , Morgan brought Root into attack. Joe Root introduced himself by trapping Steve Smith with his  magnificent off break delivery. Soon Travis Head followed his captain. Travis Head was caught and bowled off Magical Root.With two  quick  wickets , England stepped up in the match.

After Smith and Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh joined the centurion. With 85 runs stand ,  Australia got good cameo in the match. Aaron Finch departed after a wonderful inning of 106 runs.

Mitchell’s 36 helped Australians reach to a respectable total of 270 runs in batting friendly pitch. Australia couldnot score more runs in the last 10 overs. They scored 57 runs in last 10 overs and all the credit goes to English Bowlers who kept batsman tight. Woakes ,Moeen Ali and Plunkett shared a wicket each whereas Root and Adil Rashid took two wickets each. Australia finished up in 270 runs for 9 wickets.

Chasing 270, England lost the destructive Jason Roy in the very first over. After his wicket Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow took England past 100 runs within just 19 overs , with  a century partnership. Alex Hales departed by making 57  runs off 60 balls , followed by Bairstow with 60 off 56 deliveries. These two early wickets brought Joe Root and Eoin Morgan to the crease. Joe Root stood till the end with Chris Woakes to finish the match within just 44 overs. And England registered their second consecutive victory in the series.

Efforts from Australian bowlers was really appreciable, Mitchell Starc took four wickets and Jhye Richardson strucked two.
